Frequently Asked Questions

What is achar and how do I use it?

Achar is a vibrant Indian condiment that brings depth and spice to your meals. Add it to scrambled eggs, avocado on toast, a side with your favourite curry, sandwiches, dips — or anywhere you want a bold flavour lift. With reduced sodium, it’s easy to enjoy generously.

How do I gift this fabulous chilli?

You can also add a gift box and a personal note if you are gifting the chilli. The gift boxes are currently not available. Our website will be updated as soon as these are available.

Who will receive the funds?

Initially, 50% of net profits will be donated to charities supporting culturally informed services for women impacted by domestic violence. As we grow, we plan to distribute profits across more charities aligned with our mission. Donations are made to registered Australian charities selected by Made for Change.

How are donations made?

Made for Change is a for-profit business. We have committed to donating 50% of net profits from the sale of our products to culturally informed Australian charities supporting women impacted by domestic violence.

Donations are made by Made for Change after operating costs and taxes. Purchases are not tax-deductible donations.

How will you report on your impact?

Donation amounts and impact will be transparently shared on the website once contributions begin. Each year we will publish a summary of total profits donated and recipient organisations.

Why do you use olive oil?

We use olive oil for its health benefits. Rich in monounsaturated fats and antioxidants, it’s a healthier alternative to seed oils and keeps the achar natural and preservative-free. We would recommend you do your own research on seed oils.

Why do you use date syrup?

Date syrup is a natural, minimally processed sweetener. It balances the heat of the chilli while keeping the recipe free from refined sugar.

Where do we get our chillies?

We use Australian-grown chillies, supporting local farmers and ensuring fresh, high-quality produce in every jar.

How spicy is it?

The chilli achar is designed for chilli lovers, is not for the faint hearted and packs a punch.

How do I store my chilli?

Before opening, store your jar in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, we recommend keeping it refrigerated.

Why should I refrigerate my chilli?

Our chilli achar is made with fresh chillies and fresh garlic, minimal processing and preserved in oil. Refrigeration after opening helps maintain freshness, flavour, and quality.

How long does it last after opening?

When stored properly in the fridge and handled with clean utensils, your chilli achar should last for 30 days after opening. Always use your senses—if it looks, smells, or tastes unusual, do not consume.

What if some oil solidifies in the fridge?

This is completely normal. Natural oils may firm up when chilled. Simply take the amount you want out to sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving, and it will return to its usual consistency.

How can I maximise shelf life?

To keep your achar fresh for as long as possible:

  • Store in the refrigerator after opening
  • Always use clean, dry utensils
  • Keep the lid tightly sealed
Ensure the chilli pieces remain submerged in oil

Introducing moisture or food particles can reduce shelf life and affect quality.
