The Problem We Are Addressing
Domestic and family violence is one of Australia’s most urgent and devastating social issues.
Across the country, women are harmed, silenced, and killed by people they know and trust. Millions have experienced violence in their lifetime. We all know the statistics. Behind every statistic is a woman navigating fear, isolation, and impossible choices.
For women from South Asian communities, the barriers to safety are often even higher.
Why a Culturally Informed Response Matters
Mainstream support services don’t always account for the realities faced by women in migrant and diaspora communities.
Many South Asian women experiencing domestic violence face:
- Visa and immigration insecurity
- Language barriers
- Financial dependence
- Pressure from extended family structures
- Cultural stigma around speaking out
- Fear of community shame or isolation
Without culturally informed support, many women are left feeling trapped — unsure where to turn, or whether help will truly understand their situation.
Our Initial Focus: The South Asian Diaspora
Made for Change is directing its initial impact towards charities that support South Asian women in Australia who are affected by domestic violence.
We partner with existing frontline organisations that:
- Provide immediate safety and shelter
- Understand cultural nuance and lived experience
- Offer support that respects language, identity, and community context
This work is not about reinventing the system — it is about strengthening the services already doing the hardest work, and ensuring women receive support that meets them where they are.
Why This Can’t Wait
Change doesn’t happen through awareness alone. It happens when resources reach the women who need them — quickly, safely, and with dignity.
Made for Change exists to take meaningful steps towards safety, choice, freedom and a future rebuilt on her own terms.
